May 2nd, 2024, the Brattleboro Bears took on the Northampton Blue Devils. The game was close until an explosive 4th inning for the Bears, giving the Bears their second mercy-rule in a row. The final score was 14-0, Bears win.
The Bears came into this game 1-4, looking to keep their hot streak alive after previously beating Windsor 26-0. The Bears did just that. Senior pitcher Jackson Emery pitched a shutout in his third start of the season, giving Brattleboro their second win of the year.
The player of the game was undoubtedly John Satterfield. Satterfield has been on a hot streak this season, batting exactly .500 on the year. He also reached base 14 out of 21 at bats, making his on base percentage .667. Against the Blue Devils, Satterfield went 3-3 with 2 singles and a double, and a walk. John has been consistent this year, and hopes to continue this for the remainder of the season.
The bottom of the fourth was the Bears best inning so far. Junior Zach Corbeil started the hitting with a single. Then juniors John Satterfield, Sam Bogart, Jayke Glidden, Harper Cutler, Evan Wright, and seniors Karson Elliot, and Jackson Emery all contributed in that fourth inning with hits of their own.
When asked what Satterfield does in the box during an at bat, he said, “I have two things I try to focus on. The first thing I do is look at the cap of the pitcher, and then go from the cap to the release point of the pitch. Then I tell myself to be patient, and wait for my pitch. So far, it’s working pretty well.”
The Bears are rolling, and hope to continue this on Monday, May 6th, Against the Burr & Burton Bulldogs.
