Junior Sam Bogart hits a single for his first hit of the season in the bottom of the 5th
April 15th, 2024, marks the start of Brattleboro Union High School's (BUHS) baseball season. This also kicks off the beginning of a new team name: The Bears.
The Bears first game was against Mount Anthony Union High School (MAU). This game was the first of fifteen. While the game did not go the way BUHS would have wanted, there were positives within the 10-1 loss.
Jackson Emery, Senior pitcher at BUHS, got the start for the Bears. Emery recorded 10 strikeouts through his 4 innings pitched. Despite giving up several walks, there were 0 hits off Emery through 4.
On the offensive side of things, the first ever at bat in Bears history, Junior shortstop John Satterfield, got a leadoff single to get the hitting started.
There were 5 hits in the game for the Bears, 2 of which were from Senior left fielder Karson Elliot, who debuted his BUHS baseball career that day.
Junior second baseman Sam Bogart recorded a single, and Sophomore Sean Cozza hit a single off the bench.
When asked how Emery was able to throw strikes after multiple walks, he said, “I take a deep breath, relax, and I try not to think about my mechanics too much. Also I let my defense do what they do behind me.”
